No Choice
Choice is an illusion. Control is an illusion. Our whole little life is one big illusion. What is choice? Suppose you have to choose between A and B, who makes that choice? Is it your atoms, molecules, hormones, neurons and brain that make the choice? Or are we going to start complaining about our soul making the choice? According to 'science' everything is action and reaction. Then we are nothing more than a computer, one that creates the illusion of consciousness. What if we are the sum of our past, our upbringing, our environment and our DNA? And no more than that? People who are well off will say they have made the right choices in life. Some have made the conscious choice to start having children. Bullshit. Consciousness, what the hell is consciousness? We have become addicted to the idea of a separation between body and mind, created by Descartes centuries ago, and we are still not freed from it. There can be no separation because what is there to connect the two? If body and mind are two parts of a separate world, how are they united together? Because the moment you create something that should connect them, then you have one thing again. What a mess. What shitty words too, consciousness, soul, choice, spirit... Maybe everything is predetermined, down to the smallest details, from birth to death, and 'you, your consciousness, your soul' have no say in it. It's like if you made a robot that would one day be so intelligent that you would think it had consciousness. But it still remains a computer, programmed to learn from the past and make choices based on a lot of data. Artificial intelligence is nowhere to be found yet. If humans were smart enough to understand themselves, we would be too stupid to exist. Sometimes I want to stop the world when I think about choice. Sitting down somewhere and not getting up. What's the use? Is there something more? How does the world actually work? We can see to the furthest stars in the universe, looking back in time billions of years. We can search for new particles, God particles, until we drop. But in the long run you have to ask yourself, what do we know more now than about 3,000 years ago? The real questions of life. What do we know about that? I better have shit my pants. It wouldn't even have been a choice. We choose our parents before we were born. We choose our lives. We are responsible for the choices we make in life. Rich people have earned their wealth. They worked for it. Neck shot. It's getting a little less dark in my soul ;-). Everything stands or falls with faith. And faith is an illusion. If I had one wish, it would be to believe in something. That makes everything a thousand times easier. Believing in a story. Everyone believes in a story, religion, your upbringing, parents, family, a mystical experience... What if you put all stories aside, what if you no longer believe in anything, what if you only want truth, pure truth? Would you like to know, the truth? Would you like to know the truth?
Of the same substance we are as dreams; and our little life is surrounded by sleep. William Shakespeare
